Miscellaneous Stuff. And some Garden Snaps.

Yesterday I said yes to a 4 year old Phillip Lim 3.1 frock with beaded triangle whatsies on the shoulder
And I don't want to frighten anyone half to death, but Look, No necklace!!!
I know. I don't know who I am anymore either.
Here are some necklace visuals to lower your heart rate
These two were always smartly turned out:
Did anyone else watch the doco about Princess Alice who was the Queen's mother in law?
Fascinating stuff. What a life.
Lady Mary looks nice here:
Went to a sort of Celebratory Dinner last night with friends because they had some much needed Good News. Hooray. So much better than Bad News.
I really like these Oscar de la Renta earrings. So Fun.
And these Florence Broadhurst place mat arrangements are pretty good too.
Meanwhile who knew so many of you were so disciplined?
Impressive. Hopefully it'll rub off on me.
What blogs are you all reading these days? Anything I should be checking out in my spare time?
In Domestic News I'm about to roast a chicken and make some sort of aperitif style beverage and then I'm going to go through the toddler's clothes and cull anything he's outgrown. Always an emotive task.
Cheerio. And Keep it Together.

  1. A heads up in case you haven't seen them: Figs about $13 a kilo, about 6 for $4 at Aldi. Yippee.

Your blog is my favourite must read, Hostess of the Humble Bungalow, Frugal Queen and Glittering Royal Events.

  2. Love those oscar earrings, but they're terribly expensive. There are similar beaded tassled ones on etsy that I've been eyeing off for around 6 months that are half the price. Tempting.
Am shocked you did not wear a necklace, even if the (beautiful) Philip Lim had studded shoulder things. Did people recognise you??
Good luck with the clothes sorting. I loath doing that with my children, but that's because I feel like they're constantly growing out of things, and then I have to sort out what to do with it all...xx

    2. Agree so interesting and worth watching again when repeated. An amazing woman who endured terrible sufferings but was so devoted to helping those in need.

Queen Victoria's family and their descendants are really interesting. So many died tragically or went through terrible tragedies. Princess Alice's grandmother, also Princess Alice (2nd daughter of Queen V.) nursed her husband and children through diphtheria, losing one of her little girls but keeping it from them until they recovered. Tragically she then herself caught the illness and already worn out and in a weak state died, only in her 30s. Her children were still quite small at that time. Two of her daughters married into the Russian Imperial family: Ella and Alexandra (the last Czarina) - both murdered during the revolution. Princess Alice's older sister, Vicki married the heir to the Prussian throne, Fritz (a love match). By the time he inherited years later they both had cancer, Fritz surviving only a short time and was then succeeded by their son the Kaiser Wilhelm, who'd been brought up under the influence of Bismarck to look down on his mother's more liberal political views and with a love/hate relationship with his English royal relatives.

When we lived in the UK we were often invited to stay with the daughter of yet another Princess Alice, who was the last surviving grand-daughter of Queen V. She had so many fascinating stories and used to lend me books about the family, including the one written by her mother, "For My Grandchildren". Cheers, Pammie xxx

  7. Get back in there and put on a necklace!

I also feel kind of naked without a neck adornment, even with fancy shoulders.

  12. You look so different without a necklace!

It's a bit of a risotto with a glass of red wine by the fire night here in Hobart. If you can believe that from where you are in Brisvegas.

I love sorting through my daughters clothes. It's soothing. I like to have only a small number of outfits on rotation. I find it stressful if she has too many outfits and doesn't wear them...

    1. I'd like to have a few outfits too and storage is limited but people give me so many hand me downs! But agree- less is more x

    2. In all honesty, I've never bought an outfit for my little one yet. My wonderful mum sends me things from the UK and it's got me by until now.
My daughter goes to the 'orphanage' next week and it looks like messy work there. I think I might need some less special stuff for child care days.
Where is Romy? I miss her blogging. I like Zoe Forster's fruity beauty blog too but sadly she no longer posts pictures of Meowbert x

  15. I didn't comment on the disciplined post! the only things i am disciplined about are wearing lipstick, packing my lunch (and breakfast, and morning and afternoon tea) and exercising. I went to 37c yoga tonight. Then i ate fried calamari and chips to make myself feel better.

You look fab with no necklace! like that apricotty sequined getup.

Don't you think Wallis and Prince George or whoever it is have such interesting faces? That is a killer photo.

i haven't seen any of the RHOM yet but I have got my eyes v. peeled. I will come across one, you will see.

Hi FF, seeing as you asked for info of what blogs we follow, I thought that I would let you know my favorites. Obviously yours is first! I think that I may have got some of the blogs from you.
‘Royal order of sartorial splendor’, which with your love of jewelry I think you would enjoy. Along that line is ‘From her Majesty’s jewelry vault’. The latest posting of ‘ Duchess Kate’ has jewelry which she may wear to your part of the world as the pieces have connections to Aus and NZ. I enjoy ‘what Kate wore’, which I will follow avidly when she is on tour in April!
Enough of the royals! I enjoy ‘Habitually Chic.’ (she had a posting on the Cartier exhibition in Paris ) and the ‘India Hicks blog’ – but perhaps you know those. I also visit ‘French Essence’. My all time favorite (except yours) was ‘Absolutely beautiful things’ .
Ps please post a picture of all the strange sounding ‘creatures ’ that upset your garden – we don’t get them here. Tx xx
